Age Management Medicine FAQs

Some of the questions we get asked and their answers are listed below. You may have several questions of your own and we encourage you to call us or schedule a free consultation to obtain answers to all of your questions and to learn what we have to offer.

How does your program differ from the Cenegenics program?
Apart from the much lower cost, our program replicates the evaluation performed at Cenegenics. The Cenegenics program is an effective method of managing the aging process. We see no need to modify it in any significant way.

How does age management medicine differ from “anti-aging” medicine?
The recognized field of age management medicine uses well-known and accepted markers of disease-risk in proactive patient management, making it possible to prevent premature disability and premature death. We do not treat aging as a disease and, with the possible exception of TA-65, there are no known methods to reverse aging.

Are hormones prescribed to all of your patients?
In addition to low-glycemic/low-fat nutrition, quality nutraceuticals and exercise, customized programs may include hormone normalization for clinically proven deficiencies, demonstrated by comprehensive evaluation. We do not prescribe hormones for “body building” or growth hormone for it’s so called “anti-aging” properties. The diagnosis of adult growth hormone deficiency requires very stringent laboratory testing and few people meet the criteria for AGHD once they have initiated a diet and nutrition program at IHL. Furthermore, your evaluation may reveal optimal hormone levels in which case you will not be a candidate for hormone replacement.
How young-and how old-can you be to start the program?
It’s never too late to start a healthy aging program. Patients from 35 or older are the best candidates for age management medicine, yet younger individuals can always begin a nutritional/exercise regimen to promote better health as they age.

Do you accept insurance?
No. In order to provide the absolute best hormone treatment optionswithout the unreasonable restrictions placed on patient choice by managed care HMOS’s/PPO’s, we do not accept any third party payments including insurance, Medicare, or Medicaid. In addition we will not fill out any paperwork or respond to any inquiry from insurance companies. However, patients who have private health insurance may find that their insurance pays for labs and prescriptions.

Am I ever too old to start?
Age is not a barrier. Many people over 60 erroneously believe it’s too late. Yet, older adults are likely to have greater hormone diminishments; therefore, the response to bio identical hormone optimization and supplementation is usually excellent and almost immediate.

Will your clinic assume my primary medical care?
No. Our clinic only treats aging, not diseases. We supplement your physician’s care, not replace. We do, on occasion, consult with your physician when appropriate.
